Living in the city
Deciding to unpack my suitcases in a two-bedroom flat in Birmingham City Centre has been one of the best decisions I’ve made regarding accommodation! As I am doing my Masters at the University of Birmingham, I’m only going to be here for one year – or maybe not as I could definitely see myself staying in this beautiful city for a bit longer! But as I don’t know what the future holds and thinking that I would possibly have only one year to explore Birmingham, I chose to live in the city centre and… I love it!
City life might not be for everyone but the benefits of living in a big city are undeniable!
Here are just some of the reasons why I enjoy living in Birmingham city centre as a student…
Public Transport
There are regular buses and trains to and from the City and the University’s Edgbaston campus. I personally prefer taking the bus because there is a bus stop right outside my accommodation; of course the lazy me loves that. Even when I’m running a little bit late, I never worry about the bus because there is one every 10 minutes!

The 61/63 bus route to campus (which is the one I take) is very quick and beautiful!

Attractions & Entertainment

Living in the city means I am closer to most attractions and entertainment venues such as museums, theatres and music venues, the beautiful canals… and right now we also have the Christmas Market, the Big Wheel and ice rink in Centenary Square!

It never gets boring here…there’s always something new to see and do!

Restaurants & Shopping
Another thing I love about living in the city is that I am closer to some of the biggest and fanciest shopping centres in England: Grand Central, The Bullring, and The Mailbox.

And what a better way to finish off shopping than with churros? You can find churros in Grand Central Food Hall, along with many more food choices.
There are multiple restaurants in all of the shopping centres as well as throughout the city and I can assure you that food in Birmingham can satisfy everyone! From Kebab and Pizza take-away places to fancy restaurants… you can find everything in the city.

Nightlife
In the city’s ever changing nightlife scene you can find classic pubs, trendy bars, multi-room nightclubs, anything you can dream of! Living close to such venues is such a convenience as I can just walk to any place in only 5-10 minutes.

And… to be honest with you, most of my friends who are also doing a Masters Degree live in the city and this makes my life here so much more fun as I get to see them more often!
