Hashtags are everywhere
Have you ever wondered how people come up with all these fascinating hashtags that we see on social media all the time? During the last couple of weeks, I’ve noticed some hashtags that were trending such as #CrepeDay, #PizzaDay, #RandomActsOfKindnessDay, #DrinkWineDay and it made me wonder how many more special days people celebrate! What is the meaning behind each ‘holiday’? And by holiday, I am not referring to the globally known, popular holidays like Christmas or New Year Eve, but rather, I’m talking about less-known celebration and appreciation days…
I did my research and picked some of the ones I found more interesting. So if you are looking for an excuse to celebrate more often, I’m pretty sure you’ll love what you’re about to find out!

Announced by UNESCO in 1999, International Mother Language Day celebrates cultural diversity. Language is our primary method of communicating our cultural values, beliefs and customs and everyone should be proud of their mother language and have the right to use it everywhere!

Pink Day was established in 2007 by David Shepherd and Travis Price, after they supported one of their fellow students who was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt. Pink Day is a day to stand up against harassment and bullying. No matter what gender you are, you should be able to wear whatever you want without the fear of judgement from others. So, don’t forget to embrace pink on the 26th of February! It’s literally just a colour after all.

Old memories or more recent ones… They could be positive or negative; even negative memories are important because they remind us of the things we’ve been through that helped us to become STRONGER and BETTER! This day could also be seen as a “challenge” by some people… ‘No-Selfie Day’ was established to remind us of how much selfies have become part of our culture. It helps us to realise that even though for most of us it’s fun to take selfies, getting the ‘perfect selfie’ can be a source of anxiety for a lot of people. If you on the other hand hate selfies, this is your day, my friend!

This day was founded by the United Nations and it’s a way of reminding people of the importance of protecting our oceans against pollution. It’s an amazing ecosystem that holds so much life. Respect the sea. It’s beautiful. It’s important.

This has probably been the cutest story I’ve read in a while…
In 1998, Winnie the Pooh was named the World’s Ambassador of Friendship by the United Nations (believe it or not!). In April 2011, the United Nations officially recognised 30 July as International Friendship Day! How sweet is this? Love your friends every day but maybe just a bit more on the 30 July!

December is a month full of festivities and excitement for many, but did you know there is a whole day dedicated to writing Christmas cards? How amazing is that! I still write cards – I prefer it so much more than sending wishes via text. So this December, I’ll be doing all my writing on the 9th! Can’t wait!
