Hashtags are everywhere

Have you ever wondered how people come up with all these fascinating hashtags that we see on social media all the time? During the last couple of weeks, I’ve noticed some hashtags that were trending such as #CrepeDay, #PizzaDay, #RandomActsOfKindnessDay, #DrinkWineDay and it made me wonder how many more special days people celebrate! What is the meaning behind each ‘holiday’? And by holiday, I am not referring to the globally known, popular holidays like Christmas or New Year Eve, but rather, I’m talking about less-known celebration and appreciation days…

I did my research and picked some of the ones I found more interesting. So if you are looking for an excuse to celebrate more often, I’m pretty sure you’ll love what you’re about to find out!

Announced by UNESCO in 1999, International Mother Language Day celebrates cultural diversity. Language is our primary method of communicating our cultural values, beliefs and customs and everyone should be proud of their mother language and have the right to use it everywhere!

Pink Day was established in 2007 by David Shepherd and Travis Price, after they supported one of their fellow students who was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt. Pink Day is a day to stand up against harassment and bullying. No matter what gender you are, you should be able to wear whatever you want without the fear of judgement from others. So, don’t forget to embrace pink on the 26th of February! It’s literally just a colour after all.

I personally adore pink, as you can tell!

This is the day to celebrate your absolute favourite memories! Old memories or more recent ones… They could be positive or negative; even negative memories are important because they remind us of the things we’ve been through that helped us to become STRONGER and BETTER! But on this day, I would prefer to go with the positive ones to be honest!

This has to be the most adorable appreciation day ever! Aren’t puppies just perfect? A puppy could make anyone happy!

This day could also be seen as a “challenge” by some people… ‘No-Selfie Day’ was established to remind us of how much selfies have become part of our culture. It helps us to realise that even though for most of us it’s fun to take selfies, getting the ‘perfect selfie’ can be a source of anxiety for a lot of people. If you on the other hand hate selfies, this is your day, my friend!

This day marks the completion and opening of the Eiffel Tower in 1889. This is the perfect day to visit this beautiful landmark if you haven’t before. Share a picture of the Eiffel Tower on social media and use the hashtag #EiffelTowerDay or if you can’t visit, watch a documentary about this amazing landmark and learn all about it!

Founded in 1982 by the International Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute, International Dance Day promotes the art of dance around the world because dance is for everybody!

It doesn’t really need much explanation, does it? Laughter is the best medicine! On this day, make sure you share your best jokes with your friends, watch a stand-up comedy show or a comedy film on Netflix. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you laugh with all your heart!

I had no idea this celebration day existed and when I discovered it, it made me sooo happy! I love all getting my nails done and learning that Nail Day was founded by a UK company, Elegant Touch, made me even happier. Can’t wait to celebrate this day with a few little gifts for myself!

About 71 percent of the Earth’s surface is covered in water, and the oceans hold about 96.5 percent of all the water on Earth so they definitely deserve to have their own special day! This day was founded by the United Nations and it’s a way of reminding people of the importance of protecting our oceans against pollution. It’s an amazing ecosystem that holds so much life. Respect the sea. It’s beautiful. It’s important.

Social Media is undoubtedly everywhere these days! Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat, LinkedIn… The list goes on! These platforms allow new jobs to be created, help us keep in touch with friends and family, and keep up with news and the world in general! So yes, social media can be great as long as it’s used for the right purposes and in the right ways! Use social media for you, not to impress others!

“Life is better in a bikini.”

I couldn’t agree more with this saying! When I go back to Cyprus for the summer, I wear a bikini almost every day. The sun, the chill holiday vibes, the smell and sound of the sea, it all makes life better! I know you are thinking about booking a summer vacation to relax from some of the stresses of studying, so if you are able, just do it!!!

If you are planning on taking an internship this summer, make sure your managers are aware of this holiday so they can show you some appreciation!

Thursday 30 July 2020

This has probably been the cutest story I’ve read in a while…
In 1998, Winnie the Pooh was named the World’s Ambassador of Friendship by the United Nations (believe it or not!). In April 2011, the United Nations officially recognised 30 July as International Friendship Day! How sweet is this? Love your friends every day but maybe just a bit more on the 30 July!

My best friend for over nine years now, Thessalina!

How could I ignore this special day after starting my vlogging journey this year? Filming and editing videos might not sound ‘that hard’ but trust me, a lot of work, patience and creativity is required! As well as to step out of your comfort zone…

I’m definitely an amateur vlogger but I must say I enjoy vlogging quite a lot. Let me know what you think about my vlogs and feel free to give feedback or ideas as I really want to improve!

Lash stylists are such talented people. I’m so glad they have their own appreciation day! Don’t forget to thank them for giving you the most beautiful lashes! Can’t wait to tell my lash lady about this – I’m sure she’ll be so excited (if she doesn’t already know!)

My lash stylist, Fatima, knows how to treat her customers!

Thursday 15 October 2020

This is the day to celebrate ourselves and our hard work! This day is for students, all around the world. Be proud of what you’ve achieved so far!

My BA Graduation Day

Vegan Day first occurred on 1 November 1994 as a way of commemorating the 50th anniversary of the UK Vegan Society and the development of the term “Vegan”.

Wednesday 9 December 2020

December is a month full of festivities and excitement for many, but did you know there is a whole day dedicated to writing Christmas cards? How amazing is that! I still write cards – I prefer it so much more than sending wishes via text. So this December, I’ll be doing all my writing on the 9th! Can’t wait!

I always keep the Christmas cards I receive. I find them adorable

So, how many of these days did you already know? And how many are you planning to celebrate?

I’ll probably celebrate all of them but the one I am definitely not forgetting is World Chocolate Day… Trust me!

I hope you enjoyed reading this blog… If you have any questions about student life in Birmingham, feel free to drop me a DM at eleniuob
