Questions

Why did you originally apply to do your chosen course at Birmingham?

I applied to the MSc Computer Science course at Birmingham because I have always enjoyed programming and I am hoping to pursue a career in software development. However, as I studied sociology for my undergraduate degree, I lacked the necessary knowledge to obtain employment in the software industry.

What do you think are the best points of your course?

One of the best things about the course, in my opinion, is the amount of support available, whether it be from talking to lecturers, attending tutorials, or speaking to TA’s during labs. In addition, there are many opportunities to speak with employers and receive help with graduate applications, as well as the large careers network that is available.

What’s the best thing about studying at the University of Birmingham?

The excellent facilities offered by the University of Birmingham, together with its convenient location, are two of my favourite things about studying there. While it is a campus university there are plenty of transport links to the city and there is always something going on.

What’s the highlight of your time at the University?

One of my highlights so far would be meeting new people. From making friends on my course who share similar interests, to joining the women’s rugby club which has been a lot of fun with regular socials taking place. It has been a pleasure to meet so many people in such a short space of time.

What advice would you give to students thinking about studying on the course?

Be prepared to work hard and have a look at the modules that may be studied to see if it sounds like something you could enjoy. The program combines theory and practice and requires both individual and group work.
