Questions

What piece of advice would you give to anyone considering postgraduate study in your field?

I would advise them to consider the most appropriate postgraduate degree for their chosen career, and how such a degree would further their employability. I researched the modules listed on my course page on the UoB site prior to applying, and how these modules correlated with the person specification and job descriptions on sites like Prospects and Indeed. This meant I was sure a postgraduate degree was right for me and that it would be worth the extra studying and costs.

What, for you, are the best things about the course?

The best thing about my course is the people. We differ in age ranges but we all have the same goal in working in HR. I’ve found volunteering and work opportunities quite quickly since starting at UoB three weeks ago, and I mention these opportunities to my course friends and they suggest things to me. We are very like minded people and it has really helped my learning being around professional HR employees and also people my own age just starting out in their careers.

What was your motivation for undertaking postgraduate study?

My motivation in continuing my studies was to better qualify me in my chosen field of HR. This is a competitive industry where CIPD qualifications are essential, so undertaking my Masters degree will mean I have the appropriate qualifications to work as a HR Manager. I also really enjoy studying, and I felt I could have pushed myself further than my undergraduate degree, which was more general in Business Management.
