Past Questions

  1. What was your motivation for undertaking postgraduate study?

I experienced different research labs in Germany and completed my undergraduate dissertation in a research lab at the University of Birmingham which really motivated my decision. I decided that I enjoyed the research environment and being in the lab full-time, I wanted the opportunity to continue my project and develop my knowledge and skills to support my career.

  2. What, for you, are the best things about the course?

I think that the best part of the MIBTP PhD doctoral training programme has been the community, we had the opportunity to meet fellow students and develop friendships and a solid support system. It's very important to have peers to discuss your research and any struggles with, and have fun with! I really enjoy being part of the School of Biosciences and the Institute of Microbiology and Infection and being surrounded by excellent scientists carrying out ground-breaking research.

  3. What piece of advice would you give to anyone considering postgraduate study in your field?

Do your research! Postgraduate study is heavily reliant on researching and seeking information for yourself, it's really important to develop those skills. There is so much information available on the University of Birmingham website to prepare you for postgraduate study and I'd really recommend utilising those resources. If you're considering postgraduate research then I would suggest reading papers, contacting members of the lab group you're joining for advice and just preparing in every way that you can.
