Questions
Hello, I am from India. I have already completed my Bachelor's and Master's in Physical Education, and have 3 years of experience working in a school in India. 1) Which course is suitable for me to get the QTS in one year, PGCE or School Direct or any other related course? 2) Can the University of Birmingham provide placements? 3) The fee for the international students is a lot, do you know how I could get the maximum scholarship?
I want to get QTS - I did an Economics degree but I would like to become a Maths teacher in a secondary school. Do I need school experience first?

Hi there, I am an international applicant who already holds a Masters degree in Financial Management from the University of Birmingham. I am opting for a change in a career mainly due to the fact that I would love teaching Maths at the secondary level. I remember being frightened of the subject initially but then I got a firm grasp over the subject and finally got to score 149/150 in Secondary School Examination. I have always had a liking for maths (quant). I would love to teach and help more and more students overcome their fear of numbers and in fact start to love numbers. I'm currently employed in Pakistan in administrative cadre in one of the Universities. I have many questions because I've been searching a lot about getting into teaching from UCAS to Department of Education and finally to Universities and Training provides. 1. Which one should I opt for? PGCE or PGDip or School Direct? I have no experience of teaching at schools. 2. I scored well in my Secondary School Exam in Maths however in my higher Secondary School Exam, I didn't get to study it since I was a pre medical student and we weren't offered Maths. I have been told it doesn't fulfil the GCSE requirement. In that case, what would be my options? 3. How would I apply for the Subject Knowledge Enhancement course? 4. I can arrange to spend 4-6 weeks in one of the finest schools here. Do I need to do that before I apply or I could do that afterwards too? 5. Are there bursaries or scholarships available for international applicants who want to get into teaching? 6. Lastly, what is the likelihood of securing a job after successfully completing the course and being a qualified teacher?

Most of your questions would be best asked to a member of the Education team. There is a live Q&A chat on the 28th May where you can put your questions to members of staff from the department: https://www.pg.bham.ac.uk/events/event/pg-programmes-education-28-05-2020/
They will be able to advise you on your choice of course, entry requirements, the SKE course, and employment opportunities after studying here.
In terms of funding and scholarships, please refer to our funding database (https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/postgraduate/funding/index.aspx) for possible funding opportunities.
