How have you benefitted from the GREAT - Law and Justice scholarship?

The GREAT scholarship for justice and law contributed to the payment of my tuition fees for a Masters programme at the University of Birmingham. The scholarship award of £10,000 was a huge relief of the financial burden of my postgraduate studies. It encouraged me to make the University of Birmingham my firm choice. I am honoured to have received the scholarship as I can concentrate on my studies without worrying about my tuition. I must say that the GREAT scholarship inspired me and gave me a platform to achieve my career goals.

How does receiving this scholarship and studying Law, Data and Technology at the University of Birmingham support your future aspirations?

The GREAT scholarship supports my aspirations to develop my career in the dynamic field of law and technology. Receiving this scholarship has paved the way for me to gain better analytical and research skills in the advanced curriculum and core modules that the LLM Law, Data and Technology pathway offers. The critical thinking and problem-solving ability garnered from this programme would help me achieve my aspiration to provide solutions to issues relating to data protection, cybersecurity and the regulation of new technologies. The skills I would acquire would give me an edge in the labour market and equip me to make substantial contributions to the digital economy in the future.

Why did you choose your course at the University of Birmingham?

Technology permeates every aspect of our day-to-day life, and without laws to regulate its use and protect data, the effect would be adverse. I chose Masters in Law, Data and Technology because I am enthusiastic about learning, researching and developing skills in this thriving field of law. I was impressed by the University of Birmingham’s reputation for academic and research excellence.

What has been the highlight of your course and why?

The highlight of my course is how interactive my classes are during seminars and lectures. The University of Birmingham admits students from various countries and multicultural backgrounds, so it is enlightening to hear other students talk about their countries’ laws and legal systems. I like how the lecturers are patient and attentive, giving everyone time to share their thoughts and concerns.

What have you learnt from your course?

My course has helped enhance my knowledge in this field of law, and I have acquired better skills in conducting research, critical thinking and problem-solving. The skills I have developed have built my confidence to take up and excel in any role in my future career.

What has surprised you most about being a student at the University of Birmingham?

The most surprising thing for me is how the University of Birmingham cares so much about their students’ welfare and career development. The University provides students with enough information and opportunities to develop relevant skills and gain work experience. They also offer well-being support to students struggling with their studies.

What have you enjoyed most about living and studying in Birmingham?

What I have enjoyed most about Birmingham is the city life. Birmingham is a beautiful city with lots of fun activities and scenic places to visit. My favourite things to do are making new friends, going out and making memories with my friends.
